What Are Scleral Lenses?!

They are a specialty hard contact lens that are custom made for each and every patient! They are called "scleral" lenses because they completely cover the cornea (the clear dome of tissue that covers the colored part of the eye) and rests on the sclera (the white part of the eye). When the lenses are placed on the eye there will be a reservoir of fluid between the front of the cornea and back portion of the lens, which will allow the cornea to remain hydrated throughout the day!

Who Can Benefit?!

Anyone who is interested in getting the best vision possible with a contact lens! Many patients have been told in the past that they cannot wear a contact lens due to high astigmatism, dry eye related problem or because of a post refractive complication (LASIK). This is very untrue because patients will have the luxury of not only having superb vision with these specialty lenses, but they will also feel very comfortable, have great centration on the eye, can heal irritated corneal tissue, minimize light sensitivity issues and most importantly keep the cornea hydrated all day long to help with dry eye problems.
